Subject: Being a rebel leader
Well, Doctor Ellie, when I agreed to sit down and speak with you in regular sessions, I didn’t expect that you would give me assignments to do after we parted. But I found out you made Hauck and Chase start this journal thing too, so I’m not going to be the one to not carry through, not after I made it an order for the whole senior staff to do therapy.
You asked me to consider how I feel about my role as the leader of a rebellion.
This is not what I set out to do. I did not want the welfare of twenty thousand people on my shoulders. I never expected the mass exodus that happened to occur. When I decided to leave Central Command, I told a few select people my plan toborrow liberate steal a ship and head to Regalia, and I invited them to come along. The people I told each told other people, who told other people, and the next thing I knew, half the Masini Base on Dorshona was coming along on my planned desertion of my post. My co-conspirators, who are all now serving as my senior staff here, convinced me that since Central Command promoted me to General, it wasn’t actually theft to take the ship... ships... that I needed. It was stupidly simple, I just signed some forms, bureaucracy took care of the rest.
So I guess that’s how it started. I suppose that leaving wasn’t just a good idea to me, everyone who heard about it decided to get on board with the plan. I can’t blame people for wanting to get out, the situation was intolerable.
I felt guilty, using my new rank to perpetrate a sneaky op. Again, I was pacified by my friends and family. Hauck, as usual, knew how to phrase things and helped to put it into perspective for me. He reminded me of the oath we had taken to protect Ferian lives. Like me, he felt that the Central Command government that was answering to our L’spi conquerors was a farce and doing a piss poor job of protecting the remnants of the Ferian people. We had been promoted after our ‘rescue’ with the purpose of rallying our people and making them more amenable to following orders in the refugee camps, to bring them back under control.
Well, that’s what we did, though not at all in the manner Central Command expected, was it? The camps are completely under control now, they’re empty.
But it’s not really a rebellion, is it? A rebellion would be an armed uprising against the establishment. This is more of a relocation, I moved our people away from the abominable conditions of the refugee camps on Dorshona, Regalia and Tanglia. We did not, at any point, raise arms against Central Command. We just left. I will admit to the acquisition of supplies without going through proper channels, but those supplies are being used for the purpose they were intended, preserving the health and well being of our people. I shall continue to resist taking on the title of Rebel Leader.
How do I feel about my current position? At this point, resigned, I suppose. It isn’t an exciting or glamorous job, I’m an administrator more than anything else. I do my best to put the right people in the right place to take care of what needs to be done. Hopefully, we’ll be able to have the civilian population take over their own governing and policing and we can all stop living in a state of martial law. And then I can step aside and go live a nice, quiet, normal civilian life.
